Capitol View – Atlanta

The project is a ten building, 120 unit, two-story walk up style community. The original buildings were constructed in 1948 for World War II veterans and with over seventy years of use, the property had fallen into poor condition. Funding of resources was secured to move the project forward for residents earning between forty and seventy percent of the area median income instead of displacing them.

Elements such as the windows, door styles, stoops, and railings were documented in great detail to assure the art deco characteristics of the project were not lost during the renovation process. The building exterior scope included the installation of new windows, roofing, gutter/down spouts, and restoration of the crawl space vents.

The complete interior renovation contains unique one and two bedroom unit types, accessed through interior vestibules with stairways arranged in a “back to back” configuration. The property was enhanced with significant landscape improvements throughout the property as well as lighting and trees along the public pavement, leading to the Beltline.

Our Capitol View project has won two awards: The 2023 Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation Award in Excellence of Rehabilitation and the 2023 Atlanta Urban Design Commission Design Awards in Excellence of Historic Preservation.
